FAQ

How is this treatment different than other pain clinics?

The Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma offers an FDA-approved system of electrical stimulation combined with a pharmaceutical grade nutrient blend for regrowth of healthy nerves which provides long-lasting relief of chronic pain and numbness. This is a non-invasive therapy that uses no narcotics, no steroids, and no surgery. Other pain clinics use pain medicines, lasers, chiropractic, light therapy, and vibration therapy; all of these methods only treat the symptoms of pain but do nothing to encourage nerve regrowth.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate?

Neuropathy can be caused by a variety of health issues, some of the most common being:

  • Chronic diseases (diabetes, autoimmune disease, kidney/liver disease)

  • Infection (shingles, Lyme disease)

  • Spinal damage

  • Traumatic events (surgery, stroke, injury)

  • Exposure to toxins (smoking, alcohol, medications such as chemotherapy or antibiotics)

  • Vitamin deficiencies (B vitamins , iron, copper)

We offer a consultation to determine your eligibility for our treatment program.

What happens in the initial consultation?

At your first appointment we will take a full medical history and will review recent labs, imaging, and other diagnostic tests. We will thoroughly assess the affected area for any motor or sensory loss and will also check for other contributing factors such as poor circulation. We will determine if you are a good candidate for treatments and if any additional diagnostic testing is required before beginning treatments. We will give you an overview of the treatment program and answer any questions you may have.

How long does the treatment take?

Every patient is different and your treatment plan will be customized to your pain level and the extent of your nerve damage. Patients are coming for treatments either once or twice per week and you should expect to spend about 40-45 minutes in the clinic at each session. Many patients end up receiving between 16 and 24 total treatments, although this number can vary greatly depending on your symptoms.

How quickly will I start to feel results?

Nerves are very slow to heal in general and this therapy does take time. Most patients are noticing pain relief between 6-15 treatments. That said, every patient is unique and many do feel noticeable symptom improvement after the very first treatment.

Generally we tend to see improvement in the painful symptoms first then later on in the treatment round we see improvement in numbness.

Are there any medical studies for this treatment?

Yes, this treatment protocol has been the subject of multiple scientific research studies. Over 87% of our patients experience a significant improvement in their symptoms. Additionally, research shows that those who have pre- and post-treatment skin biopsies show increased nerve fiber density and nerve rejuvenation after completing a round of treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Overall this therapy is extremely well-tolerated by most patients. We very rarely see mild injection site reactions (mild skin irritation) to the lidocaine or vitamins in our nutraceutical blend.

Occasionally patients report a short-term increase in the severity of their symptoms during the early phase of treatment. This is a promising sign of the nerves waking up in response to the electrical stimulation and will improve as the patient progresses through the treatment round.

This treatment is non-surgical and does not use any prescription oral medications therefore it does not interact with other medications you may be taking.

Do you offer treatment options?

In addition to our standard machines we also have specialty electrical stimulation machines called NeuroMed which are especially well-suited for treating traumatic injuries as well as acute and chronic pain.

We also offer topical capsaicin treatments (Qutenza) to treat diabetic neuropathy and shingles-related nerve pain.

Schedule a consultation to determine if you might be a candidate for either of these therapies.

What insurance do you accept?

We accept most major insurance providers. For the most accurate and up to date information on our current insurance coverage, please call our office.
