Meet Julie. She had been struggling with Type 2 diabetes for over 10 years. Julie came into the clinic with blood sugars running in the 300 range, which can be hazardous to your heart, kidneys, vision and blood circulation. Julie’s symptoms of pain, numbness and tingling were excruciating and affected her daily living. While going through treatment, she was encouraged to monitor her sugar consumption to help lower her blood sugar levels. As she became more educated on how blood sugars affect your body, Julie made a life change and got her blood sugars down to 125 on average and also lost a little weight! Julie is now living her best and healthiest life, without the symptoms of neuropathy.

You may notice that your neuropathy tends to flare during the holidays. You aren’t imagining that – it happens to a lot of people. There are several reasons why this can happen:

  • Your normal routine is interrupted, causing you to forget the healthy habits you have.
  • Your food intake has changed, and you are eating things that are less healthy and full of sugar.
  • You are not exercising like you were, which can affect blood flow to your nerves.
  • It is colder outside, restricting your blood vessels, and therefore blood flow to your limbs, causing pain.
  • You have an underlying medical condition that flares up, like Diabetes, due to suddenly eating a lot of sweets and carbs.

All these things all at once can de-rail the work you have done to stay healthy the rest of the year. But it doesn’t have to be like this.

Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma would love to partner with you to help keep you on track, so you don’t deal with increased pain during those times of year that are supposed to be joyous.

Managing diabetes can be an ongoing struggle for so many people. Then the holidays hit, and temptations are everywhere. By following essential care tips for diabetes, such as exercising regularly, following a balanced meal plan, monitoring your blood sugar levels regularly, taking medications as prescribed and keeping your appointments with your doctor, you can prevent complications from this disease. So how do we manage to do all this when there is a big holiday meal in the oven and yummy hors-d’oeuvres set out?

Keep to your regular eating schedule – to ensure your blood sugar levels are stable, try not to change up the times you eat. If a family meal is served at a less optimal time, have a snack at your regular mealtime to keep your body in check.

Carbohydrates – No one wants to miss out on the pie at the end of the meal, but if you choose to eat a lot of mashed potatoes, you will likely have to miss out on that great dessert. Keep the total amount of carbs at a safe level so you can enjoy a treat.

Portion sizes – make sure and balance those portion sizes so you don’t overdo it. Vegetables are always in the safe zone.

Slow down – eating slowly can help your body tell you when you are actually full and keep you from overeating

Watch alcohol intake – alcohol can greatly affect your blood sugar levels, so it’s best to keep it to a minimum or avoid it altogether

Check blood sugar levels more frequently – better safe than sorry. If your routine is different, it’s best to check often.

Keep moving – what better way to offset a big meal than by exercise. Plus, it helps stabilize your blood sugar, so keep that body moving.

Everyone has slip ups, so don’t beat yourself up if that’s you. You can get back on track!

Try these healthy recipes this holiday season:

Weather can dampen or elevate our mood pretty quickly. Those rainy days can make you want to curl up on the couch all day, and sunshine pushes you to go outside and lay on the grass. Cold weather can bring out the worst pain in those dealing with symptoms of neuropathy. Unfortunately, the pain cold and pain can last for several months.

When your body is colder, your blood vessels constrict, making it harder for blood to get to the nerves in your hands and feet. The result is increased pain. This can make even the simplest things so much more challenging. No one wants to live with chronic pain, especially during the holiday season when there are lots of things to be done and events to attend. It’s harder for our bodies to measure the effects of the cold when we already feel numbness and tingling regularly. Our body’s “alert system” is just not working properly to tell us that something could be wrong.

If you are living with chronic pain due to symptoms of neuropathy, call today and schedule a consultation. Our dream is for you to celebrate the season with much less pain than before. We understand what you are going through and want to help you enjoy prepping that Thanksgiving meal, and not have to take pain reducing medication to endure it.

We don’t use steroids or prescription medications, so you don’t have to worry about side effects. Don’t let this fall and winter take away your freedom because of pain. If you start treatment now, you will begin to feel relief before the real cold weather begins. Call 918-921-8160 to schedule.

Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma can help you LIVE PAIN FREE FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Start your new life today!

An unfortunate reality with medication and medical treatments is that it can cause side effects that can be very debilitating. Chemotherapy is no different – in order to kill the bad cells, some good cells are sacrificed along the way. Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is very real and can cause severe pain. It can last for just a few weeks or continue for years after chemo is done.

Thankfully, not all chemotherapy treatments cause this side effect, but many times, a diagnosis determines which chemo you receive and there are no other options. It’s definitely a question you should ask when making decisions regarding treatment for cancer. You don’t want your chemo treatments to cause other problems that stay with you for years after you thought you’d be free.

Besides chemotherapy, there are other medications that treat a variety of health issues that can also cause symptoms of neuropathy. Medication used to treat heart or blood pressure issues, some drugs used to fight infections, some for autoimmune disease, seizures, anti-alcohol drugs, those to fight HIV/AIDS, plus a treatment for gout can all have the terrible side effect of symptoms of neuropathy, after the fact. The good news is that these symptoms are treatable – you don’t have to live with this side effect for the rest of your life. And Nerve Regenerating Therapy won’t cause even more side effects to battle, but instead it will reduce or even eliminate your symptoms.

Treatment for symptoms of neuropathy is non-surgical, does not use any prescription oral medications, and is essentially pain free. Our goal at Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma is to encourage healthy regrowth of nerves and not just treat the symptoms of your pain. We look at your medical history, reflexes, and test for nerve fiber damage to discern whether our treatment is right for you. Your story is unique, and we will get to the bottom of what you are experiencing to give you the best treatment possible.

Don’t let pain stop you from living your best life!

Chemotherapy has been known to cause neuropathy. Our Treatments Can Help!

No one wants to beat cancer only to live with debilitating neuropathy the rest of their life. And thanks to Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma, you don’t have to!

Neuropathy can be a long-lasting side effect of cancer treatment. It occurs when chemo damages, inflames, or degenerates the peripheral nerves in your body. This can, in turn, affect your arms, legs, hands, and feet by causing numbness and tingling, burning sensations, or loss of sensation altogether.

Chemotherapy drugs that use vinca alkaloids, platinum compounds, taxanes and thalidomide are more likely to contribute to symptoms of neuropathy. However, there are other factors that could be causing problems as well. Tumors, themselves, could be pressing on nerves and causing the pain you feel. Also, cancers of the nervous system, like brain tumors, tumors in the spine and skull base tumors are more likely to result in these unwanted symptoms.

Symptoms of neuropathy can be different for each individual because of the type and location of nerves that are damaged. One person might suffer from hearing loss or facial pain, whereas another has difficulty walking and loss of balance.

At Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma, we want to partner with you to make sure you enjoy a pain free life after battling cancer. Our state-of-the-art treatment can reduce your symptoms so you can enjoy all those things you missed out on. Start making that list of activities you want to do – it is possible to live again without pain.

Ring that bell with confidence and know that PAIN WON’T STOP YOU even after finishing your chemotherapy treatments. Call NTCO at 918-921-8160 to schedule an evaluation to see if our treatment might be just what you need to combat this known side effect of chemotherapy. Your journey is not finished – take back control of your pain and symptoms of neuropathy!
