Exercising while dealing with chronic pain can feel daunting. But it’s all about taking some simple steps to get yourself going, and once you get into the routine of it, then pushing yourself to the next level. Whatever your starting point is – the key is to start!

There are 4 things to focus on when thinking about exercise: Aerobic Level, Flexibility, Strength, and Balance.

Aerobic Exercises

The focus here is to get your heart rate up to an aerobic level, promoting the circulation of oxygen in your body. Also referred to as cardio, these exercises make you breathe a little harder and work your muscles, pushing oxygen throughout your body. Taking a brisk walk in the neighborhood, fitness classes, swimming, or biking are great ways to get aerobic exercise, plus they can be low or high impact depending on your starting point.

Flexibility Exercises

Flexibility can be a great benefit to your general well-being. The tighter your muscles are, the higher the chance of strain or injury if you have a fall or accident. By regularly stretching your muscles, you will increase your range of motion and overall physical performance.

Strength Training Exercises

Building the strength of your muscles helps reduce falls and risk of injury, plus it increases your endurance so you can get back to doing the things your love to do. Another great benefit is that it can help manage blood sugar levels by removing glucose from your blood and sending it to muscle cells instead.

Balance Exercises

Improving balance can be so important in reducing falls and instability. By regularly strengthening your body in this way, you can more confidently climb stairs, walk in the neighborhood, and play with your grandkids again.

Getting into a good rhythm with exercise can be tough, but so rewarding in the long run. Make a plan and stick to it – you won’t regret it!

You know that feeling. The achiness, tingling, and painful sensation that happens when your nerve endings are damaged or restricted in some way. Sure, you can handle one or two days, but living that way for months or years can be life-altering and just plain depressing. Then, stack wintertime on top of that.

February oftentimes proves to be one of the coldest months of the year, but that doesn’t mean you have to feel the most pain from symptoms of neuropathy during that time. Yes, cold weather can intensify pain due to restricted blood vessels, especially in the hands and feet. Our bodies naturally slow down blood circulation when they are cold in an attempt to preserve the body’s core temperature. For those dealing with neuropathy, it’s harder for our bodies to measure the effects of the cold when we already feel numbness and tingling regularly. Our body’s “alert system” is just not working properly to tell us that something could be wrong. This blood vessel restriction can also reduce the feeling in our extremities, causing issues with balance as well. But even though these are commonly the worst months for patients dealing with pain, they don’t have to be anymore.

Nerve Regenerating Therapy at NTCO can reduce pain that comes from symptoms of neuropathy. The staff at Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma are determined to help pinpoint the source of your pain and develop an individualized treatment plan that can help restore the feeling in your hands and feet. And this treatment works!

As you are combating this cold weather, make sure and layer up your socks and wear thick gloves. And don’t forget to call NTCO at 918-921-8160 to get the best treatment for pain related to symptoms of neuropathy in the state. YOU are our greatest priority – don’t live with pain anymore!

Everybody loves a good game when family convenes for the holidays. It’s a great way for all ages to come together with laughter and fellowship – and some good healthy competition to get the blood pumping through our veins.

Although, it might be challenging to find those games that the youngest and the oldest in our families can both play, with equal amounts of fun. Here is a great list of options that so many ages can enjoy:

  1. Qwirkle – A great tabletop game where you mix and match tiles of different shapes and colors. Since it doesn’t use words and most children can match shapes and colors at a fairly young age, this can be a great one for the entire family!
  2. Jenga – All ages can play this wooden block tower game. Be sure you’re not the one to bring it tumbling down.
  3. Dixit – This is a game involving storytelling and guesswork, bringing everyone’s imagination to life.
  4. Cranium – If you are up for some light acting, humming, sculpting, sketching, and guessing, this is such a fun game for all ages!
  5. Go Fish – Play with a regular deck of cards or with a deck specifically made for Go Fish!
  6. Dominoes – Another great matching game that young and old can play together!
  7. Checkers – A classic game that never gets old! Plus, young kids can grasp the concepts.
  8. Old Maid – Don’t get caught with the Old Maid in this fun card game!
  9. Puzzles – There’s nothing like putting together a good puzzle while relaxing with family!
  10. Uno – Be the first to get rid of your cards, but don’t forget to say the magic word, “Uno!”
  11. Farkle – Find out if you are a risk taker in this great family friendly dice game!
  12. Bingo – Find printable bingo cards or order an official set and play away! A classic for all ages.
  13. Bean Bag Toss – This one might get you up and moving a little bit. Create your own target or purchase one.
  14. Pictionary – No need to be an artist for this great family game – it just makes it even funnier!
  15. Charades – Break out your acting skills in this great family game!

Have a blast this holiday season with your family — and know that your friends at Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma are wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving. A time of family, fun, and of course – food! But not just any food, creamy, sugary, curl up on the couch and sleep afterwards type of food. We all love it, but for those of us who are trying to maintain a diet that will help our Neuropathy symptoms diminish, the temptations are real.

There are ways to enjoy the eating adventures of the holiday and not get too off course in maintaining a healthy diet. It’s a matter of planning ahead – deciding where you will indulge in those favorite holiday treats and where you can make some good choices to not derail all the good you’ve been doing. It does take more work, but in the end, you won’t feel that regret of over-indulgence.

Substituting healthier ingredients can be a great placed to start. Some tried and true options are:

  1. Avocado in place of butter
  2. Greek yogurt instead of cream
  3. Almond flour in place of regular flour
  4. Applesauce instead of sugar for baking
  5. Flax seeds for eggs
  6. Cacao nibs for chocolate or nuts
  7. Banana in place of oil in baking recipes

Cauliflower has also become a great substitute for bread products, and we all know stuffing is a Thanksgiving staple. Click here for a recipe for Cauliflower Stuffing from Delish.com.

Don’t be afraid, however, to eat that favorite Thanksgiving treat this year. Once slice won’t hurt. And know that NTCO is here to help if you are dealing with pain due to symptoms of neuropathy. We can help you with a plan for your diet along with Nerve Regenerating Therapy to help you LIVE A LIFE WITHOUT PAIN. That’s the goal – to live again!

Enjoy the holidays with the help of Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma! Call 918-921-8160 to schedule a consultation that could change the rest of your life!

Your wish list. Let’s talk about it.

We all have those things in the back of our minds that we wish we could do. Whether they are things we used to be able to do or new things that we only dream about, they are all valid desires. If you have given up on that list due to pain from symptoms of neuropathy, we need to talk.

This nonsurgical therapy combines injections of a Pharmaceutical Grade Nutrient Blend with electrical cell signaling to provide significant relief from your symptoms. Plus, one of our team members also works with you to better manage the underlying cause of your neuropathy, which is the true key to success — stopping the pain where it begins, not simply treating symptoms.

Sometimes we just need someone to point the way. Life gets overwhelming, especially when dealing with chronic pain. And it’s hard to know even where to start.

But being active is not just about exercise. It’s about being active in finding the resources that can help with your chronic pain. Instead of letting time pass watching other people live their lives, be active in seeking help and don’t give up till you find it.

It’s not too late for you to make that lifestyle change you’ve been thinking about for a long while. You just need a step-by-step guide to help point the way so YOU CAN AGAIN. You don’t have to sit on the sidelines of life due to symptoms of Neuropathy. Our Get Active Guide can help you take steps towards health and wellness.

Get Active Guide

  1. Book a Consultation – The very first step to getting active again is understanding your chronic pain. There is no better place to do that than at Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma. Our providers would love to help pinpoint what has been going on in your body to cause your pain and give you solutions to find relief. One decision to book an appointment can change the trajectory of your journey towards health. Call 918-921-8160 and schedule right now.
  2. Treatment -Your treatment plan at NTCO will be specific to your pain and needs. Our providers look at all aspects of your life to determine how to help you get back to doing what you want again. Whether you are suffering from symptoms of Neuropathy, back pain, diabetes, joint pain, neck pain, sciatica, shingles, or knee pain, NTCO can help. Nerve Regenerating Therapy is an effective treatment for damaged and irritated nerves. Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma uses a pharmaceutical grade nutrient blend to bring healing to those affected areas. And immediately following the injection, they use carefully controlled electronic signals for long term relief from chronic pain. This state-of-the-art treatment has no side effects and is well tolerated by most patients. In fact, 87% of patients would say they felt a reduction in symptoms. Taking control of the pain is a critical step in getting more active again.
  3. Exercise – Now that you are starting to feel less pain from the symptoms of Neuropathy, it’s time to begin those exercises that you couldn’t do before. Start slowly – don’t overdo it. Getting your body back to where you were is a process, but once you start the ball rolling, you will find that exercises get easier and easier, and you are able to add more repetitions or achieve more distance than you did yesterday. Here are some exercises that can start you off. Expect it to be challenging at first. It’s difficult to start moving again. We get it! Don’t be too hard on yourself. Small wins each day add up to much bigger wins down the line.
  4. Healthy Eating – Nothing can help you feel more like yourself again than by fueling your body the correct way. It might be fun to grab quick food out or indulge in sweet treats, but if you do that too often your body will get run down and it will become hard to be in motion anymore. Healthy eating when paired with the exercises you’ve already started in Step 3, plus the innovative treatment that only NTCO can give is the catalyst for a new lease in life. So, make sure you are eating those greens, reducing processed foods, and watching the intake of high calorie drinks and treats.
  5. Consistency – Now that you’ve taken these first four steps to getting active again, the fifth and key step is to be consistent. It takes at least 21 days to create a habit in your life, and longer than that for some. Being consistent with your treatment, exercise, and eating habits will feel cumbersome at first, but with time you will get to the point where you don’t even think about the choice, it’s a part of your new normal. Be patient with yourself as you battle that desire to give up. Trust me, it’s worth it in the end! When you find yourself saying – I CAN AGAIN – and not feel the pain from Neuropathy invading everything you do, you will know it was worth it too.

We all feel it — the daily struggle to somehow add exercise into our already jam-packed day. Before you roll your eyes because you are thinking you’ve already tried and failed, take a look at these 15 ways to move more during the day that might be more fun than the typical gym routine.

  1. Listen to an audiobook or podcast while taking a walk
  2. Walk around a museum or art gallery
  3. Plant a vegetable garden and take time to weed and water each day
  4. Chop all your vegetables yourself instead of buying pre-chopped or frozen
  5. Stretch and exercise while watching your favorite tv shows
  6. Dance to your favorite songs
  7. Walk your dog
  8. Park further away from stores when running errands
  9. Wash your car by hand
  10. Clean your house
  11. Play video games like Wii fit or Dance Dance Revolution
  12. Walk to a co-worker instead of sending an email
  13. Take the stairs instead of elevators or escalators
  14. Play with your pets
  15. Stand up and walk around to take phone calls

The key is to find activities that you find enjoyable and aren’t WORK for you. Some people also find motivation in having a steps tracker. It just feels good to watch the count go up and eventually reach your goals. Find what keeps you motivated!

You can also find some simple exercise videos here to help reach your goals.

It’s not just about keeping moving, though. Diet plays a huge part in health and the recovery process as well. Finding new, healthy recipes can be just as challenging as getting into a new exercise routine. Try Slow Cooker Pork Tacos this week!

Exercise, when combined with a healthy diet can be great steppingstones to health. And when you add Nerve Regenerating Therapy (NRT) at Neuropathy Treatment Clinic of Oklahoma for your chronic pain, NOTHING CAN STOP YOU! This treatment has been found to reduce symptoms from neuropathy in 87% of patients. NRT has no side effects and is very well tolerated by most patients. Before resorting to surgery or strong medications, try NTCO for your chronic pain due to Neuropathy.
